Oakmeadows Cocker Spaniels

BARF Diet

All Oakmeadows puppies are reared on the "BARF" diet (bones and raw food) as suggested by Dr Ian Billinghurst in his books "Give Your Dog A Bone" and "Grow Your Pups With Bones".

The diet consists of feeding a natural diet of RAW meaty bones (every day or at least 3 times a week and these bones should make up to 40-80% of the dog's diet) Ideal bones are chicken wings, necks, carcasses, pork, beef, lamb and rabbit bones - ALL RAW

In addition, they are fed a veggie/fruit patty (half vegetable and fruit put through a food processor until it resembles a pulp and mixed with an equal amount of minced raw meat ie minced chicken, lambs liver, hearts, beef, lamb etc. the vegetable pulp should be fed fresh soon after it is made or it can be frozen for later use. Extras that can be added to this mixture include: raw egg plus shell, brewers yeast, kelp, yoghurt, flax seed oil for Omega 3 and cod liver oil. Cottage cheese can be fed occasionally instead of the veggie mix.

I suggest you get a copy of the book "Give Your Dog A Bone" as it makes excellent reading and explains the diet in more detail.

If you need any help or advice about feeding your puppy, please telephone me anytime. Of course you can feed commercial dog food if you prefer
